Labour Day is a statutory holiday, established as such in Canada since 1894, and celebrates the gains achieved by collective organizing.
It marks the unofficial end of the summer season- and falls on the last long weekend thereof.

For the first time in Ontario history, a select number of Beer Stores will be open- the nearest two of those 64 locations are in Ottawa, but the Beer Store on Madawaska Boulevard is closed Labour Day Monday.
By mutual agreement among pharmacies, one drug store in town will customarily be open on a rotational basis.
