If you’re tired of moth infestations, the Town of Carleton Place says there are proactive measures you can take.
Now is the time to wrap the trunks of your trees in burlap to prevent damage from Spongy Moths.
Burlap can be attached to the trunk of trees using a string in a band around the trunk, and folded in half.
Often caterpillars will congregate in the burlap and this can be disposed of daily in compost or garbage.
Caution, the caterpillars have long hairs that can cause skin irritation, so it is recommended to wear gloves.
The City of Ottawa has an excellent visual resource on how to wrap the burlap around the trunk of your tree.
