There’s a State of Emergency in effect in the Township of Greater Madawaska as the municipality deals with the aftermath of the weekend storm.
The Township continues to work to remove debris from roads and asks that ratepayers remain vigilant and safe during the cleanup from last Saturday’s storm.
The Denbigh/Griffith Lions Hall at 25991B Highway 41, Griffith will be open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM for public charging of devices, water (not for consumption), drinking water, coffee, and information until further notice.
The Calabogie Lions Hall at 574 Mill St will be open from 11 AM to 8PMfor charging devices, showers, coffee, internet, water (not for consumption), drinking water, and information until further notice.
The Renfrew Ma-te-way Activity Centre will be open to the public for showers, Monday to Friday 8 AM to 9 PM; Saturday, May 28th from 8 AM to 9 PM and Sunday, May 29th from 2 PM to 6 PM.
If you have brush and tree debris to dispose of, take these items to the Reiche Gravel pit located at 5991 Matawatchan Rd. from 8 AM to 4 PM until further notice. All fees for brush have been waived for now. REMINDER this pit is ONLY for brush and tree debris.
The Griffith Transfer Station will not be accepting brush and tree debris until further notice.
In addition to its regular operating hours, the Norway Lake Transfer Station will be open Thursday, May 26th, and Friday, May 27th from 8 AM to 4 PM.
You cannot burn your brush, as there is a Level 1 Fire Ban in effect in Greater Madawaska.

Anyone available to volunteer to help with the opening of the Reception Centre in Griffith is asked to contact Steve Green at 647-454-8589.
Safety tips during a prolonged power outage include ensuring generators are away from the house as the exhaust generates CO
Do not use outside gas appliances inside the home as they will also generate CO
Use proper PPE for chain saws and power tools.
Steer clear of power lines.
