New dates for the Ontario Winter Games have been suggested.
Chair of the winter games committee and Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon provided an update to county council on Wednesday afternoon (January 26th, 2022).
Emon says they’re hoping to host the event in February of 2023 on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th along with February 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.
He adds these dates would run from Thursday to Sunday over two separate weekends.
Emon says snowboarding and ringette would not be able to attend, but they’re still looking at 3,100 participants with another one or two sports that may want to jump in.
Warden Debbie Robinson says she’s thrilled that organizers were able to line up potential new dates within a month of the cancellation.
Robinson hopes the volunteers who were ready to step up in 2022 will want to do it again in 2023.
Staff with the County of Renfrew will reach out to the province to see if funds allocated for the 2022 Ontario Winter Games can be reallocated for the event in 2023.
