Changing the name of the Gypsy Moth doesn’t get rid of the problem- but it is politically correct.
The pesky moth that has been eating away at the foliage on the area’s trees is now officially known by its Latin designation, Lymantria dispar dispar- or the LDD moth.
Lanark County has a photo contest that is awarding prizes for people’s efforts to make the moth dispar dispar from local tree trunks.
Here’s how it works: Simply scrape egg masses into a bucket of soapy water, then dispose of the contents after a few days, and report back.
The poster with instructions can be found on our website.
Three winners will be announced October 29th.Gypsy
