UPDATE: The Precautionary Boil Water Advisory issued by the Town of Renfrew for areas north of the Bonnechere River continues as the Town is awaiting confirmatory sample results. These results are anticipated to be received the morning of Wednesday August 4, 2021 at which time a further update will be provided. The first sample results were clear and if the second confirmatory results are clear as well then the Town will be able to lift the Precautionary Boil Water Advisory. All areas served by the Town’s water distribution system south of the Bonnechere River remain safe for consumption and use.
Following consultation with the Renfrew County District Health Unit, the Town of Renfrew issued a Boil Water Advisory last night for all properties located north of the Bonnechere River.
The Town says the advisory is in place until further notice and applies to all residents that use their water for personal use and all businesses that may provide drinking water to members of the public.
According to the Town, the advisory was issued due to a loss of pressure in the water distribution system because of a major water main break last evening in the area of Stewart Street between Hincks Avenue and Ready Avenue.
Traffic is being re-routed until the road has been restored.
During this precautionary Boil Water Advisory, the water should not be used for drinking, making infant formula or juices, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables or brushing teeth.
For this, the Health Unit says boiled water or commercially bottled water should be used.
To make sure your tap water is safe, the Health Unit says it should be brought to a rapid rolling boil for 1 (one) minute, noting that you should only boil as much water in a pot as you can comfortably lift without spilling.
