There’s a lot of shoreline in Ottawa’s West Carleton Ward, and with rising temperatures in the forecast, the Ottawa Police Service is warning that ice can be unpredictable at this time of year.
Sgt. Walt Lushman of the Ottawa Police Service’s Marine, Dive and Trails (MDT) Unit cautions ice is inherently dangerous and always unpredictable at this time of year.
The OPS warns of potential flooding due to expected heavy rain.
Police say stick to the trails and avoid open water.
Any ice less than about 15cm (6 inches) thick is a hazard.
