Almonte’s Metcalfe Geoheritage Park was the first of its kind in Canada, but the attraction is sadly making news due to an all-too-common occurrence.
The art installation, Shelter Tissage, has been victim of vandalism.
The damage to the structure happened sometime over the past week.
Shelter Tissage was created by local artist Stephen Braithwaite and the piece- which features glass faces from people across Canada, was initially installed in Ottawa for Canada’s 125th birthday commemorations in 1992.
It was gifted to Mississippi Mills by the National Capital Commission in 2017, and its erection in Metcalfe Geoheritage Park last autumn was supported by the whole community.
Braithwaite added six glass faces of local community members to the Shelter Tissage installation earlier this spring.
The vandalism has left many of the glass faces shattered and irreparable.
It’s time to come clean.
