An 82-year-old semi retired engineer from Combermere has won a million dollars.
Michael Butt from Combermere normally doesn’t play, but says he bought a ticket when he heard on the radio the jackpot was growing.
He comes from a lucky family as his brother won $3.5-million back in the late 1980’s.
He asked his grandson if it was a winning ticket and he turned around and said, “Grandpa you won a million bucks!”.
The winning ticket was picked on April 7th, but Michael forgot to check until the Easter weekend.
Michael went to the store where he bought the ticket to validate it and tipped the cashier who sold him the winning ticket.
He says he was there to buy a ticket for the LOTTO 6/49 draw and the cashier selected the wrong draw and printed a winning LOTTO MAX ticket.
Michael doesn’t have specific plans for his winnings yet, but he sees this win as an excellent opportunity to give back to the communities that have served him and his family.
LOTTO MAX players in Ontario have won over $5.5 billion since 2009, including 75 jackpot wins and 603 MAXMILLIONS prizes, right across the province. LOTTO MAX is $5 per play and draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
