Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Member of Parliament (MP) Cheryl Gallant is calling out a local reporter from the Ottawa Valley. Gallant says she is deeply troubled by the actions of Torstar employee Derek Dunn and has called on his editor and publisher to review his actions and reporting.
The local MP says the Arnprior Chronicle-Guide and Renfrew Mercury reporter made defamatory statements by suggesting she saw and condoned a comment on Facebook calling for political violence.
The local MP adds the fraudulent headline had the intention of hurting people already injured by racism. The headline from the local newspaper says Gallant is being condemned by an “anti-hate group” and a fellow MP for something she said.
Gallant says since she wasn’t contacted before publishing the story online it demonstrates a lack of journalistic integrity. She adds given the current global political climate, insinuating she made racist comments has put the safety of the office at risk.
The Conservative Member of Parliament says she doesn’t expect an apology from the paid off Liberal media.
