It’s a new way of learning for many students and teachers in Renfrew County.
Director of Education for the Renfrew County and District School Board (RCDSB), Pino Buffone, says staff will be able to access the new learn at home portal for the next few days, parents and students will be sent a link by the weekend and they will have new model of online learning running as of Monday, April 6th.
The RCDSB At Home Portal will launch on Monday with links to activities and tasks sorted by grade and support for mental health and well-being. Buffone adds staff are working to provide students with all the necessary resources so they can continue to learn at home online.
The Director of Education says staff miss their students and they look forward to seeing them again soon.
With the primary focus being the shift to online learning, Buffone says they haven’t discussed the possibility of extending the school year at this point.
The province of Ontario announced earlier today that schools would remain closed until at least May. Education Minister Stephen Lecce says students can and will continue to get credits and they will make sure that graduations are not compromised. The province says they will not hesitate to extend the closures based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
