Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce say schools in the province will stay closed until at least May 1st for teachers and May 4th for students. Lecce says they will do whatever it takes to allow students to graduate and ensure there’s no barriers to get into post-secondary schools.
Lecce says with Phase 2 of the Learn at Home program they will reconnect students with education workers, and will require final report cards for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Education Minister says students can and will continue to get credits. Ford says financial supports are being put in place to support families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The province says they will not hesitate to extend the closures based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
