Another weekend, another winter storm. Environment Canada’s Snowfall Warning says significant snowfall amounts are expected Saturday through Sunday morning. An approaching low pressure system will bring snowfall to the Ottawa Valley starting around noon Saturday. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres are expected. Strong winds gusting up to 50 km/h will create areas of local blowing snow on Saturday afternoon. The snow will ease to light flurries Sunday morning. Officials say visibility will be reduced in areas of blowing snow, which can make travel hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Acting Inspector Marc Hemmerick, East Region OPP Manager of Traffic and Marine Programs, says “Winter driving can be challenging at the best of times”. He says they’re asking motorists to do their part in helping to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads. Some suggestions if you do have to head out on Saturday: Check 511on.ca for road conditions and road closures before you go. Slow down, leave extra space, keep your eyes on the road ahead, and clear snow from your whole vehicle, including and head and tail lights.
