The man who inspired Ogie Ogilthorpe from the 1977 movie Slap Shot will be stopping in the Ottawa Valley this weekend. Bill “Goldie” Goldthorpe is a retired professional hockey player and been called the wildest, meanest, most unpredictable player in the sport. Goldthorpe played for ten minor league teams and four World Hockey Associations squads racking up 1,132 penalty minutes in 194 games.
The story of his life titled “The Real Ogie! The life and legend of Goldie Goldthorpe” was written by hockey historian, radio host, TV personality and author Liam Maguire and was published in Burnstown by Tim Gordon.
Goldthorpe and Maguire will be at the Riverside Grill and Bar in Arnprior tonight (December 13th) at 7pm to talk hockey. The pair will also be at the Fresco Café in Pembroke on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm where they will answer questions and do a book signing.
Goldie will drop the puck at the Pembroke Lumber Kings game Sunday at 7pm night after giving the team a pre-game pep talk. He’ll also be sticking around to meet fans after the game and sign autographs.
