Renfrew County is exploring the possibility of a twinning project with Renfrewshire Scotland. Staff have reached out to their economic development colleagues in Renfrewshire to determine if this would be possible. Both communities share a long history including celebrating their relationship at Expo 150.
In early October, county staff received notice that Renfrewshire is willing to entertain an arrangement and would look to work out the details over the coming months. At the county council meeting at the end of October, staff were directed to work with Renfrewshire council on a twinning agreement including potential impacts to the budget.
The report presented to county council says a good twinning brings many benefits to the community including bringing people together to share experiences, enhance views and get young people involved in another country. County staff say the twinning project is an opportunity to create relationships between local businesses, schools, and cultural assets.
According to reports from a local newspaper in Renfrewshire, a report was presented to the finance, resources and customer services policy board asking councillors to agree to further talks to finalize terms of a formal town twinning.
