A new pride crosswalk has been painted at the Algonquin College waterfront campus in Pembroke. The new Dean of the Pembroke Campus, Doctor Keltie Jones, says they needed a crosswalk there so it’s good from a safety and inclusivity point of view. Jones says imagery is important as many people may not want to speak up about certain issues. She adds seeing the pride flag or rainbow crosswalk sends a powerful message of inclusion.
Jones says the pride crosswalk was installed to celebrate pride week at the college. She says since they don’t have students on campus in the summer when the rest of the valley celebrates pride week, they decided to do it at the end of September.
