Celebrate Scottish culture and heritage in the Valley at the 36th annual North Lanark Highland Games in Almonte.
Twenty pipe bands, and a hundred dancers and champion heavyweight athletes are involved.
The 2019 Guest of Honour is country singer Arlene Quinn.
From humble beginnings in rural Lanark, Arlene began writing her own songs at the age of eleven and as a teenager began touring with her own band Arlene Quinn and Ramblin’ Rose.
Diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Arlene took a hiatus from her career, but returned in 2015 with the release of her single, Nowhere to Go But Up.
Organizers estimate about three thousand people are expected to attend the games.
The event is at the North Lanark Agricultural Society fairgrounds Saturday from 9AM to 6PM.
There are children’s mini-games, as well as dancing and athletic competitions and a beer garden.
Admission is $17 at the gate. Children under 12 are free.
