With hunting season in full swing, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is making sure everyone is following the rules. From October 20th to October 28th, conservation officers checked 3,973 hunters in the Bancroft, Parry Sound and Pembroke areas. In total, 107 charges were laid. Officers were checking for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and paying particular attention to hunter safety and moose sustainability issues. Some of the charges laid included shooting from, along or across a road, having a loaded firearm in a vehicle, not wearing proper hunter orange and hunting moose, white-tailed deer or birds without a licence. Officers also seized 33 moose that were harvested illegally, as well as two firearms.
