OPERATION HEAT - OFFICERS REWARDING COMMUNITY MINDED YOUTH
11/6/2018 7:00:56 AM

This is National Crime Prevention Week. Tina Hunt, of the OPP's East Region, tells us officers are looking to cut off crime at the pass by awarding area youth positive behaviour tickets that earn them a hot chocolate from participating Circle K stores.

Samples of positive actions can include doing a good deed and being kind to others; participating in community activities; demonstrating community pride e.g. picking up trash; deterring crime or observing school crossing rules. Hunt says there are also discretionary rapport building activites, and most often, an officer doesn't have to look very far. Crime Prevention Week continues until November 10th.
