It's officially open for use. The Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail in Lanark County is a 61 km trail to promote active lifestyles and connect communities. Dignitaries joined the public Friday afternoon for the official ribbon cutting under the overpass at Highway 7 on the border of Carleton Place and Beckwith Township. Lanark County Warden, John Fenik, says the ceremony marks the culmination of eight years of effort between municipalities and many partners to develop this multi-use trail. In addition, he says the trail gives many user groups the opportunity to explore communities and landscapes throughout Lanark County and beyond, bringing new life and enjoyment to this abandoned rail corridor. The trail is open 7am to 9pm April 1 to November 30 and then 7am to 11pm December 1 through March 31. You're reminded to obey all signs, stay on the trail and respect private property as well as other trail users. Non-motorized users have the right-of-way at all times.
