NEW BRIDGE ON OLD HIGHWAY 17 TO BE COMPLETED IN 2019

Your patience is appreciated in the absence of the bridge over the Mississippi River on Old Highway 17. Brandy Duhaime, the Regional Communications Coordinator with the MTO, Eastern Region advises the existing bridge has been removed east of Arnprior and work has begun on the construction of the new bridge. At present the Contractor (Construction Demathieu Bard) is driving piles for the new bridge abutments. Highway 17 is fully closed to traffic until the end of construction, and work isn't expected to be finished until the fall of 2019. Now that the old bridge has been completely removed, abutments, piers, and the installation of new girders will be completed this construction season. Work scheduled for next year includes the bridge deck, barrier walls and asphalt paving. The MTO says the highway between Galetta Side Road and Kinburn Side Road will remain fully closed until all the work is done, including during this winter. A detour is in place, but transports are required to travel Highway 417.
