STILL HOPE TO HOST IPM
9/12/2018 2:57:45 PM

There's still hopes to bring the International Plowing Match & Rural Expo to Renfrew County.

At Tuesday's development and property committee meeting, the match was once again discussed.

The report from economic development states that a presentation has been prepared for local landowners and community stakeholders for properts in Renfrew and Admaston-Bromley along Highway 132, in hopes of landowners partnering up to host the 2021 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo.

One of the biggest issues in trying to find a host is compensation for losses to the farmers who can't use that land to grow crops that season.

Rates were raised several years ago, but it continues to be a hindrance since it's not enough.

Volunteers have also been an issue, but Renfrew reeve Peter Emon says he and Admaston-Bromley Mayor Michael Donohue have teamed up and feel they're ready to re-approach farmers and seeing how serious they really are about hosting.
