The local unemployment numbers from August are in. In the region spanning from Pembroke to Kingston, 6.2 per cent of the job force was unemployed, which is down from 6.9 per cent from August of 2017. The unemployment rate is also up when compared to July of this year, when the unemployement rate was 5.8 per cent. Locally, we have a slightly higher jobless rate than the rest of the province, which sits at 6.1 per cent. Reports are also indicating that across the country, thousands of net jobs were lost last month, which essentially wiped out the jobs that were gained in July. Ontario experienced the worst of the decrease by far with 80,100 part-time jobs lost.
