2018 is the 125th anniversary of the creation of Algonquin Park, and author Rory MacKay has created a book called "Algonquin Park, A Place Like No Other". MacKay has been amassing material on the massive park from oral history forays with old-timers dating back to the middle 1970s to the present day. MacKay says Algonquin Park, on at least three occasions, nearly didn't happen.

Railway surveyors were twice frustrated, first in 1856, and again in 1874-75, when the Park was considered as a possible CP Rail route. The publishing of this book was made possible through a donation to The Friends of Algonquin in memory of an individual. MacKay says obtaining a copy can be done through the Friends of Algonquin Park website. For information, visit
