CHIEF TO ASK COUNTY TO SUPPORT MOTION IN REGARDS TO COMPENSATION FOR OUT OF COUNTY CALLS 7/11/2018 7:17:16 AM
Renfrew County's Paramedic Chief says he's supportive of a motion being circulated by the United Counties of Prescott-Russell asking the province to make sure that they and other municipalities surrounding Ottawa are compensated for calls that their ambulances have to make into the city. Under current rules, the closest ambulance to an incident gets the call, regardless of which municipality it is in. Chief Mike Nolan says he'll be bringing Prescott Russell's motion to Renfrew County council next month for discussion. However, he says the problem goes far beyond just needing financial compensation.
Nolan says it's not unsual for Renfrew County ambulances to get called out to Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay and Kinburn, and while they're often cancelled, it draws them out of their own community for a time when they might be needed.
