COUNCIL ESTABLISHES REPRESENTATIVES COMPENSATION RATES 7/9/2018 2:25:44 PM
The Town of Mississippi Mills has established salary recommendations for the municipal council that takes office following the October 22nd Elections.
There will be fewer councillors beginning in the coming four-year term, as a referendum of voters held in 2014 recommended dropping to one elected ward representative from the current two, and adding a position of Deputy Mayor to be elected at large by all voters.
That will save the municipality 40 thousand dollars in councillor salaries.
Effective in December of 2018 those elected to Council will be paid 18,935 dollars a year.
The new Deputy Mayor will make 22, 778 dollars annually.
Retiring Mayor Shaun McLaughlin notes these are only recommendations.
At Council's June 26th meeting it was decided to keep the 35 hundred dollar Mayor's discretionary fund separate from income, so the new Mayor will make 34,140 dollars per year.
