LANDOWNER DISPUTE CLOSES SECTION OF ALGONQUIN TRAIL

A legal issue is posing a problem for users of the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail. A posting on the trail's Facebook page says a landowner dispute has caused the closure of a section of the trail. The County of Renfrew, which manages the trail, says that a 100 metre section of the OVRT is closed just east of the Musktrat River crossing near Highway 17 and Sutherland Road. Because it's a legal issue, the county declined further comment, other than to say that riders can visit www.ottawavalleytrail.com for an interactive map to determine alternate travel plans. The President of the Renfrew County ATV Club is advising riders of the route blockage to avoid injury, but is also asking riders not to engage with the landowner which she says would further damage their reputation as responsible riders. The county adds that the hope is to clear up this issue in the very near future.
