NEW LAWS TARGET COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DRIVERS 7/6/2018 8:40:48 AM
While some major impaired driving laws are coming into effect in December, you may not have heard of some changes that came into effect on July 1. We caught up with Constable Shawn Peever with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP, and he says changes apply to young and novice drivers and commercial motor vehicle drivers.
The three-day suspension came into effect on July 1 and the increased fine will start on January 1, 2019. Previously there were no penalties to a commercial vehicle driver having some alcohol in his system, but now there's a zero tolerance law for commercial operators and those who use road building machines. Fines will also come into place on January 1.
