HOPE IN THE DARKNESS WALK SEEKS TO IMPROVE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH
6/12/2018 8:29:07 AM

A national walk for youth mental health has made its way through the Ottawa Valley. Our news team caught up with Kevin Redsky and others from Hope in the Darkness Monday afternoon at the Petawawa Legion. Redsky is a Sergeant with the Anishinabek Police Service in Curve Lake just outside of Peterborough, and he says this walk is to raise awareness for youth mental health.

He says throughout the walk he is talking with youth to find out what is working and what they need, and documenting everything so once the walk wraps up in August, he can provide the information and hopefully start a change. Redsky adds that the idea for the walk began from his work as a police officer and seeing what didn't work through the system, and also from the death of his niece from a suicide five years ago. His Ottawa Valley stops started on Friday in Arnprior and the final stop is today (Tues) as the group goes from Chalk River to Stonecliffe.
