FORMER FIRE CHIEF HIRING LAWYER TO CHALLENGE POLICY THAT FORCED HIS RETIREMENT
5/10/2018 5:43:38 AM

Renfrew's fire chief says he has hired a lawyer to help him challenge a new policy in town that calls for all fire department employees to retire by age 60.   Guy Longtin had to step down as fire chief this week after town council passed a motion for the policy. Reeve Peter Emon says the province passed legislation in 2011 forcing front-line firefighters to retire at age 60, partly because of the hazards of the job. Emon says town council felt the legislation should also be applied to the chief, since it's a small fire department and the chief often attends fire scenes. (The Canadian Press)
