ONTARIO FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE FEELS PROVINCE NEEDS TO INVEST IN RURAL COMMUNITIES LIKE OURS
3/13/2018 7:14:35 AM

When the province hands out slices of their financial pie, rural areas, such as Renfrew and Lanark County, need to get a bigger slice. Money is often funneled into urban centres and as such, rural communities and rural industries, such as agriculture, suffer. Keith Currie, President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture says who ever wins the provincial election needs to spread the wealth for the good of the province as a whole. He says this isn't just about agriculture, it's about the entire industry.

Currie says the high-precision technology used in farming is often overlooked and feels there should be a push to encourage high-tech jobs in rural communities. In addition, he says there needs to be investment in infrastructure; improvements to roads and bridges so they can get their goods out and increased broadband since it's now deemed an essential service. Currie has been steadily championing his cause on Queens Park and is confident movers and shakers are listening.
