MISSISSIPPI MILLS VOTES TO ALLOW SNOWMOBILES, BUT NO ATVS ON TRAIL 3/7/2018 8:36:23 AM
It's the delicate art of compromise. At the Mississippi Mills municipal meeting Tuesday, elected representatives voted 8-2 in favour a proposal that dictates what restrictions there will be on the portion of the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail that travels through Almonte. Mayor Shaun McLaughlin says a meeting was convened Monday (March 5th) by Lanark Warden John Fenik. The County's Chief Adminstrative Officer, Public Works Director and Fenik met with Mississippi Mills County representatives and one Town Councillor.
McLaughlin steered a three-pronged motion expressing the Town's good faith through Municipal Council, and hopes the gesture gives the Warden wiggle room to get County Council on-side with the compromise. Lanark's Economic Development Committee had discussed plowing ahead with the County's vision of an all-uses trail with or without Mississippi Mills consent at its meeting of February 21st.
