Investigations are now underway after a pair of frauds. A Renfrew resident fell victim to the Emergency Scam. This one is nothing new to the Ottawa Valley. A grandparent received a phone call from a scammer claiming to be a lawyer and that their grandchild had been involved in a car crash. The lawyer asked the victim to transfer a quantity of cash through Western Union. In the second case, a man from Arnprior reported someone attempted to access his banking information through the Microsoft scam. The fraudster called the man and claimed he was owed a refund and requested his banking information to make the deposit. Some information was shared before the person realized it was probably a scam. The victim's bank was advised and assured no loss had occurred. For more information about these or other scams, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
