ARNPRIOR MAYOR REACTS TO HST HIKE SUGGESTION 2/8/2018 1:28:31 PM
Arnprior Mayor David Reid is one who is known for looking at the big picture. The two-term Chief Executive says the Association of Municipalities of Ontario has been pushing hard for a one-percent increase to the HST to provide a revenue stream dedicated to local infrastructure. Reid isn't sure that's the way to go.
The Arnprior Mayor says one factor in the infrastructure deficit is that municipalities themselves have been lax in applying the development charges they are allowed to. The Mayor says new construction should fund its fair share, but cannot do so if development charges are not assessed. The Arnprior Mayor has passed his suggestions on to administration, which will be preparing a memo on Arnprior's position on the AMO suggestion.
