The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reminding people to enjoy wild animals from afar, not up close. MNRF says feeding deer in the winter may do more harm than good as wildlife can become dependent on artificial food sources and lose their natural fear of humans and pets. They add that feeding one deer may attract large numbers of wildlife which can spread parasites and disease and cause destruction of natural habitat. The MNRF added that there is also a threat to people as feeding wildlife may attract unwanted animals, animals can become aggressive and feeding animals near roads increases the risk of motor vehicle accidents which can result in property damage, injury or death.
