A grade 5 student at A.J. Charbonneau Public School in Arnprior got to be Mayor for the day. Alaina Botchar won the honour by doing a presentation on what she would do if she were Mayor for a Day. For winning, Alaina spent January 29th with Mayor David Reid visiting several town facilities. She was given a guided tour of some of the recent renovations to the Arnprior & Area District Museum, she reviewed the town's new Fire Master Plan with the CAO and Fire Chief, and then it was off to the Nick Smith Centre with Mayor Reid, where Alaina went for a ride on the ice-resurfacing machine. She also toured the Water Treatment Plant to learn about how the Town supplies residents with clean drinking water. Alaina and Mayor Reid also visited the animals at the Arnprior Humane Society. Her last act as Mayor for the Day was to open the council meeting that night. The Mayor for the Day contest is done yearly during Local Government Week.
