A tax increase of 1.5 percent is proposed for the town of Arnprior. The 2018 draft budget was presented last night (Monday), detailing how the town plans to spend over 10.1 million dollars. Among the big ticket items in the budget - new equipment for the fire department and a new roof for the library and also weighing heavily on the bottom line is the impact of Bill 148. CAO Michael Wildman says the new legislation is forcing the town to pay another $46 000 in vacation pay, $27 000 in stat holiday pay and an extra $56 000 due to job evaluation and pay equity. If approved, the tax increase will mean another $6.66 a month for the average homeowner.
