There were boats with signs saying things like 'the future is nasty with NSDF' and 'plastic liners are for pools, not toxic waste' along the Ottawa River on Sunday. It was part of a protest held by the Old Fort William Cottagers' Association on the water in front of Canada Nuclear Laboraties in Chalk River. The demonstraters are concerned about CNL's plans for a Near Surface Disposal Facility. Johanna Echlin, a member of the OFWCA, says the issue isn't with disposing the waste, it's about the proximity to the Ottawa River.

Pat Quinn is the director of corporate communications at CNL, and he says that the river is only one of many things to think about in relation to the NSDF.

The OFWCA will be showing its support at another gathering taking place in Riverside Park in Pembroke today (Tuesday) from 3 until 8 p.m.
