Thirty three tickets and twenty seven warnings were handed out by the OPP on May 10th during a commercial vehicle safety inpection blitz along Highway 17 between Scheel Drive and Goshen Road. According to the OPP, the biggest offender uncovered during the event was a fully loaded tractor-trailer unit hauling scrap metal. The inspection by police revealed multiple major defects, most relating to the braking system and suspension. The plates were removed and it was deemed unfit. Police say a tragedy was likely avoided by removing the vehicle from the roadway. A second CMV Safety check initiative is expected to be conducted in the near future in the Upper Ottawa Valley area.
