The Renfrew County draft budget contains a tax levy increase of three percent. The document went public at a budget workshop yesterday (Wednesday). Warden Jennifer Murphy says it's been a very effective and efficient budget process.

VICTIM IDENTIFIED IN SUSPICIOUS DEATH INVESTIGATION IN CLARENDON

The Surete du Quebec has identified the victim in the suspicious death investigation currently underway in Clarendon. The victim is 50 year old Darwin Zimmerling of Shawville. A 68 year old man was arrested and is being questioned by police.

SUSPICIOUS DEATH BEING INVESTIGATED IN CLARENDON

The Surete du Quebec's Major Crime Unit is in Clarendon at this hour investigating what is being called a suspicious death. According to Sergeant Marc Tessier, the body of a 50 year old man was found at 3am this morning at 337 4th Concession.

The 2016 Renfrew County Council remuneration figures have been released. As expected, the top money earner around the table was Peter Emon, who sat as Warden for the year, and was paid a total of $77,751.

After a mild start, December turned out to be a snowy month in the Ottawa Valley. Environment Canada's weather review for last month shows over 82 centimetres of the white stuff fell, the most snow we've had in a December since 2007.

Greater Madawaska Council has approved its list of priorities for 2017. Last August, council began the process of creating priorities with the help of facilitator Erik Lochhart. The process also involved two public meetings to garner community input.
